This article is general information, not legal advice. Every situation is different. Talk to an attorney about yours.
Get safe and get checked
Move to a safe place if you can, call 911 and accept medical attention, even if you feel fine. Some injuries, like whiplash and concussions, don’t show symptoms for hours or days.
Document everything
Photograph the vehicles, the road, traffic signs and your injuries. Exchange insurance details and collect contact information from witnesses. Write down what happened while it’s fresh.
Be careful what you say
Don’t apologize or guess about fault, and don’t give a recorded statement to the other driver’s insurer before talking to a lawyer. Early statements are often used to reduce claims.
A free consultation can help you understand your options before deadlines pass.
