This article is general information, not legal advice. Every situation is different. Talk to an attorney about yours.

When mediation works well

Mediation lets both spouses work with a neutral mediator to reach agreement on property, support and parenting. It’s usually faster, less expensive and more private than going to court.

When court may be necessary

If there are safety concerns, hidden assets or a serious imbalance of power, litigation may be the safer path. A judge can order disclosure and enforce decisions.

You don’t have to choose alone

Many clients start with mediation and keep litigation as a backup. Your attorney can help you decide which path protects you and your children best.
